House turned to pile of bricks after driver reversed stolen Audi through lounge

A house front has been left a pile of bricks and rubble after a driver reversed a stolen car through it.

The black Audi A5 was almost embedded in the property when the incident happened at around 7pm on Thursday evening.

The Liverpool Echo reports that neighbours heard a loud bang and rushed outside to see the shocking scenes and a man wearing a baseball cap and dark clothing getting out the car and running off.

New photos have revealed the extent of the destruction with piles of bricks and rubble, meanwhile the blue front door can be seen virtually hanging off following the impact.

It is believed around three adults were in the house at the time , but luckily they were not downstairs in the living room and were in an upstairs bedroom.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The home is about 150 metres from Liverpool's Anfield stadium and had been boarded up while tenants are in temporary accommodation.

Officials from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service were talking to those immediately affected.

Police have said the Audi was stolen in a burglary in Old Swan on Wednesday, September 8, and it is believed the house was deliberately targeted.

Chief Inspector Steve Hardy, of Merseyside Police tod the Liverpool Echo said: "We believe the car was deliberately driven into the house and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any information which could help us with our inquiries to come forward.

"This was a reckless act and we are fortunate that no-one was injured.

"Crime Scene Investigators are currently at the scene and house-to-house inquiries are being carried out.

"Officers will also be checking CCTV in a bid to identify the person responsible.

"We are also interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen a black Audi A5 parked up in their street, or neighbourhood (which is not normally parked up in the area), between 8 September and today. Information they have could be vital to our investigation."
