Hour by hour weather forecast reveal when thunderstorms are expected to hit North East

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to hit the North East.

The Met Office issued the region with a weather warning for Tuesday for thundery weather which "may lead to flooding and transport disruption".

While the forecast predicts a largely dry and sunny start to the day, heavy showers are predicted to develop by late morning.

The warning is in place from 9am on Tuesday until 6am on Wednesday.

The forecast for Tuesday states: "A dry and largely sunny start. Heavy thundery showers developing by late morning, these becoming more widespread during the afternoon, with localised downpours and hail possible.

"Feeling very warm in light winds between any showers. Maximum temperature 25°C."

And for Tuesday evening: " Heavy showers or longer spells of thundery rain continuing well into the evening. Becoming drier for a time overnight, but further heavy rain moving in from the west around dawn. Minimum temperature 10°C."
