Hot May weather to continue into next week - but it’s bad news for the weekend

We've all had an extra spring in our step this week thanks to the warm weather.

But if you've been counting down the days to the weekend so you can enjoy it properly from the comfort of your own home (or beer garden) then we've got a bit of bad news.

Now, we all know how unpredictable conditions can be here in Scotland, so forecasters seem to be swaying a lot with regards to what we can expect from the elements over the next wee while, but they seem quite certain that Saturday and Sunday will definitely be dreich.

Met Office experts are expecting the weather to take a turn from tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at around 5pm, when the sunshine is set to disappear, and they are warning of rain across the period.

A Met Office statement for Friday reads: "Low cloud and mist will soon lift and clear to leave another bright day with sunny spells. Best of sunshine in morning, with thicker cloud later bringing risk of rain. Maximum temperature 19 °C."

Come Saturday, temperatures will drop from the balmy highs of around 19C we're experiencing today, to 12C.

The Met Office forecast for Saturday - Monday adds: "Cloudy with outbreaks of rain on Saturday, then bright spells and scattered heavy showers Sunday. Low cloud, mist and fog extensive at night. Mostly cloudy with showers on Monday."

Average temperatures will hover around 16C on Sunday and 15C on Monday but, to add insult to injury for all nine - fivers, the weather is expected to brighten back up again from Tuesday (May 21).

And a Met Office forecast for the rest of the month suggests we should get used to the rapid changes in conditions until June at least.

It states: "Sunny spells and showers may continue through the rest of the week, with the best of the dry and sunny weather in the west.  However, towards the end of the week more persistent rain and stronger winds may spread into far western areas. Temperatures will be close to or slightly above average for the time of year. The changeable conditions are most likely to continue through to the end of the period, with showers at times."
