'Hostile vehicle mitigation measures' in place ahead of Prince Philip's funeral

Police have put “hostile vehicle mitigation measures” in place in Windsor ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral.

Such measures often include tactics such as putting up barriers to exclude traffic and screening vehicles entering the area. The details of this hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) has not been revealed.

The late Duke of Edinburgh's, 99, funeral is to take place in the ground of Windsor Castle at 3pm on Saturday, April 17, in St George's Chapel. His Royal Highness reportedly requested a funeral with minimal "fuss".

Thames Valley Police have put measures in place to “to ensure public safety”.

HVM are permanently installed in Windsor, however the force says local residents may have noticed an increased police presence in recent days which is part of many visible and “not so visible” security measures in place.

The police describe this as “business as usual for our officers in the town” to prevent vehicles from causing a danger to the public.

A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: “Hostile vehicle mitigation measures remain in place around Windsor as Thames Valley Police continues to work to ensure public safety in the days leading up to the funeral of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh.

“Local residents and businesses may have noticed an increased police presence in the town in recent days, which is part of many visible and not so visible security measures in place.

“The HVM measures are designed to prevent vehicles from causing a danger to the public, and are permanently installed in Windsor.

“This type of activity is business as usual for our officers in the town, and is part of the force’s work to make sure everyone in Windsor is safe during this period of national mourning.”
