Horse racing tips plus best bets for Ascot, Lingfield, Thirsk, Hexham, Haydock, Nottingham and Warwick

Our man Garry Owen has picked out his tips on a busy day of racing action.

Don't forget to follow all of Saturday's action in our weekly LIVE horse racing blog.

VAFORTINO (4.05) can reign for thriving Kevin Philippart De Foy in the trappy Victoria Cup at Ascot.

The gelding looked useful when taking a hot Leopardstown maiden for Joseph O’Brien in April 2020.

Not as good the next twice, he bounced back when bolting up from Eastern Voice at Roscommon.

The four-year-old built on that effort when third to Sweet Gardenia in Listed company at Tipperary.

However, he was sold to his current connections after his form tailed-off at the end of last season.

He looked revitalised by that switch when chinned by the useful Bless Him on debut at Newcastle.

There is plenty more to come from this pacey type who can take full advantage of an inviting mark.

MASCAT (1.45) can give Jump Ace Joe Tizzard a rare Flat winner in the competitive opener.

The five-year-old developed into a pretty decent novice hurdler over the Winter for Harriet Brown.

He made a superb debut for his new yard when just held by Going Gone back on the level at Epsom.

The tough gelding remains on an attractive mark so he can go one better in another decent contest.

STOWELL (2.20) can hunt down his rivals for John Gosden in the Listed Buckhounds Stakes.

The colt didn’t stay 1m 5f when flopping behind Yibir in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket last July.

However, he showed signs of a revival when third to Max Vega on his return in a Newbury Group 3.

The four-year-old should be primed so he can win this slightly weaker event under Frankie Dettori.

SOFT WHISPER (3.30) can shrug off a welter-burden for Saeed bin Suroor in the EBF Handicap.

The filly earned her big weight when slamming Maamora in Listed company at Newmarket last year.

The four-year-old then looked out of her depth with some lesser efforts in Group races at Meydan.

However, she is back on an inviting mark so she can resume winning ways in these calmer waters.

VERREAUX EAGLE (2.05) can swoop for in-form Ed Dunlop in the SBK Handicap at Lingfield.

The filly clearly relished returning to Turf when narrowly beaten by Batcherlor Boy at Brighton.

The grey remains fairly-treated in this sphere so she should go one better under William Buick.

UNITED NATIONS (2.40) can join Aidan O’Brien’s enviable Epsom squad by taking the Derby Trial.

The colt ran far better than the bare result when seventh to Coroebus at Newmarket in October.

He then made an encouraging return when a staying-on fourth in the Blue Riband Trial at Epsom.

The three-year-old should be primed so he can see off some exiting rivals over this extra furlong.

The Ballydoyle Maestro can also claim the SBK Oaks Trial with EMILY DICKINSON (3.15).

The filly caught the eye when fifth to the classy Above The Curve on her return at Leopardstown.

She then opened her account by outpointing the promising Red Azalea upped in class at Naas.

The three-year-old was doing all her best work late so she can land this Listed contest over 1m 4f.

SYMPHONY PERFECT (3.50) can call the tune for Richard Hannon in the Chartwell Stakes.

The filly ended last season by slamming Desert Dreamer in a six-furlong Listed event at Newmarket.

She put in her best shift since when giving Tippy Toes most problems in a similar race at Chelmsford.

The three-year-old was staying-on nicely so she can add this Group 3 to her CV over seven furlongs.

ANNA BUNINA (3.00) can shade the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock for ultra-shrewd John McConnell.

The mare ran another blinder when third to Socialist Agenda in the Scottish County at Musselburgh.

However, she really excelled herself when cosily denying West Cork in the Scottish Champion at Ayr.

The six-year-old was value for much more than the length verdict so she deny her old foe yet again.
