Horse dragged by the neck and kicked inside traveller camp in sick footage

Sick footage has emerged of a horse being dragged and kicked inside a traveller camp.

The shocking video shows the animal lying on its side before being tugged by the neck across a field in Radcliffe-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire, shortly after a large group pitched up.

The animal is also kicked in the head before staggering to its feet frozen in fear. Its tormentor then seemingly walks away.

The incident has been reported to police and the RSPCA.

It comes as dozens of caravans and vans rolled up to a sports field in the village on Monday.

The land belongs to the South Nottinghamshire Academy and local residents described the footage as "heartbreaking."

One told Nottinghamshire Live: "We are at our wits' end and have been sickened by the behaviour.

"The horse was dragged by a rope around the neck and was then kicked in the head. It is heartbreaking.

"We have called the RSPCA and they have opened a case and are taking it seriously but they won't come down without the police.

"We have also seen them swing a dog around by the neck too.

"Fires are being lit and there is constant shouting and swearing."

When approached on Saturday, the travellers did not want to talk.

A spokesman from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Nottinghamshire Police has been made aware of an unauthorised encampment at a school playing field on Bingham Road in Radcliffe upon Trent.

"The Rushcliffe Neighbourhood Policing Team has been in the area to engage with and respond to any concerns from both the local and travelling communities."
