Dying is no longer the end of the fun in R.E.P.O., the flappy-head horror game that joined the pantheon of popular friendslop titles early last year. In addition to new cosmetics in their upcoming and aptly named cosmetic update, the developers at semiwork are adding a kart racing mode to the end game King of the Losers experience.
Karts were introduced to R.E.P.O. earlier, though only to be used in the main game to scoot around narrow corridors and ram into gnomes. Now, a newer and higher speed use for karts will soon be available.
Kart racing comes to R.E.P.O.

Keeping to their weird indie game roots of making completely random additions to their game, R.E.P.O. is bringing kart racing to the game, according to a developer post. Racing will be a completely separate experience from the main game, though it can only be accessed through the main game.
Previously in R.E.P.O., players who died on their main game run to the number of monsters that lurk around would be put together in an arena to duke it out and claim the title of ‘King of the Losers’. Now, players will similarly compete to be King of the Losers, but this time through a contest of speed rather than brawn.
This racing mode isn’t just some small loop with bumper cars, but a full map suspended in an eerie dark abyss, where players need to keep up speed lest they plummet into the dark. Players must boost, hit ramps, and knock each other off the map to secure their crown, which floats tantalizingly ahead, just out of reach, for the entire race. Once players have fallen off the map, there’s no respawning in to try again, as death is permanent.
When does the Cosmetic Update come to R.E.P.O.?

As of right now, there’s still no release date for the cosmetic update, despite it being teased and hyped for months now, as even the developers have admitted it’s gotten larger than they expected. Besides the karts, the cosmetic update will bring the obvious (new hats and clothes) alongside great additions like walkie talkies, a leaf blower, a way to revive your teammates, and more shops besides the standard gas station.
Hopefully this update, which has been cooking for a while and consistently added new features in every dev blog, will drop in the near future for all semibots to enjoy.
