Horror footage emerges of £170k Porsche landing above race marshal in 100mph crash

A race marshal's life was saved by a fence after a race car flew through the air in a 100mph crash at Brands Hatch.

The latest round of the British Touring Car Championship was red flagged last weekend after Will Martin's £170k Porsche careered off the track and backwards into the barriers.

Footage has now emerged of the frightening scenes as spectators at the Porsche Carrera Cup screamed while watching on in horror.

After Martin lost control of the car, it burst through the tyre wall and went flying through the air at a frightening speed towards a group of three race marshals.

The impact of the crash also saw a bail of spare tyres dislodged before the car fortunately landed on a piece of fencing with one marshal in his post, directly underneath.

He was somehow able to escape unscathed while Martin was freed from the trapped car uninjured.

On the horror incident, the driver said: "It was probably one of my biggest shunts. I was pretty lucky to come out the other side.

"As I was coming towards the exit of the corner I had a touch from behind. Obviously, coming out the corner I was still trying to turn.

"I landed pretty much in a tree on a catch fence and the barrier. I ended up six foot in the air. Luckily, everyone was safe and no one got hurt.

"It was a bit of a scary crash. The concrete the catch fence was built into had ripped out of the ground. The tree must have helped keep the fence off the marshals' post so the guy in the post was super super lucky."

Twitter user Kieron Salmons claimed the marshal underneath the post was his dad, adding: "Just glad that my Dad is still here to tell the tale. Not sure how that happened but a small piece of catch fence saved his life!"
