Horrific violent group street attack sparks police CCTV appeal

Detectives probing a street attack have released images of two men they believe could assist their investigation.

The images form part of their enquiries into a "sustained and violent" attack in Southport town centre.

A man was found with facial injuries on Nevill Street after being subjected to a group attack at around 2.45am on Thursday, December 5.

He was left distressed but has since made a full recovery.

A 35-year-old man from Kirkdale has since been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray and a 22-year-old woman from Southport has been questioned on suspicion of assault, affray and obstructing police.

They remain under investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “Although significant time has passed since this incident, arrests have been made as our enquiries have continued.

"As a result, we now believe that the two men pictured could hold valuable information to help so if you know them, please come forward.

“This was a sustained and violent assault in which the victim was extremely distressed but thankfully made a full recovery. We’re determined to find all of those responsible and put them before the courts.”

*Anyone who recognises the men pictured, or have any information about the incident, is asked to contact Merseyside Police on social media or by ringing 101, with the crime reference 19100710539.

They can also contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or online.
