BHOPAL: A suspected case of honour killing was reported from Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.
Incident was reported from Dhanoda village under Machalpur police station area where Lakhan Rajput, a 28-year-old man, was shot twice and stabbed in the throat by three assailants, identified as Rajpal Rajput, Lokesh Rajput, and Prem Singh Rajput. His body was found lying near the main road for an hour after the attack on Wednesday evening.
Lakhan's sister, Sapna, alleges that her brother was killed by his sister-in-law's brothers due to his love marriage with Neetu Kunwar, a girl from the same village. Neetu's family had married her off to someone else five years ago, but she had returned to her father's house after facing trouble with her previous husband. Lakhan and Neetu had eloped and got married on July 8 in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, and had been living happily since then. However, Neetu's family was against this marriage and saw it as a stain on their honor. They had been threatening to kill Lakhan and his family since then.
On the day of the incident, Lakhan was emptying wheat from a tractor-trolley in front of Radheshyam Rathore's house near the bus stand of the village when he was attacked.
After the incident, chaos erupted in the village, and people went inside their houses. Sapna reached the spot and informed the police about the murder. The police have registered a case of murder against the three accused under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
After Lakhan's murder, his body was brought for post-mortem at Machhalpur Hospital, where a team of two doctors, including the Machalpur police station in-charge, conducted the post-mortem. The doctors found two bullets inside the body, one lodged in the bone near the left shoulder and the other in the waist bone.
The accused are currently absconding, but the police are confident of arresting them soon. The incident has spread sensation in the area, and people are outraged over the brutal killing. The police have assured that they will take strict action against the accused and ensure that justice is served.
