Home Bargains confirms plans to give 'inflation-busting' pay rise to staff

Home Bargains has made the decision to give hundreds of its hard-working staff members a pay rise.

Over 900 people who work at the store's regional distribution centre at retailer TJ Morris' Axis Business Park in Gillmoss will benefit.

According to the ECHO, people employed in various roles have been given the pay boost of 15% - described by Unite the union as "inflation busting".

The union said the workers play a "key role" in ensuring the organisation’s high street stores are kept fully supplied.

And it comes after months of negotiations between Unite and the retail giant over pay, as well as changes to shift patterns and hours of work, which the company was "keen to address in order to provide staff with a better work life balance".

Speaking about the pay rise, Unite regional officer Steve Gerrard said: “This pay award is excellent news for our hard working members.

"The award demonstrates that management at TJ Morris values the contribution our members give to the business and rewards our members for their commitment and hard work.

"The positive approach of TJ Morris who placed significant emphasis on the work life balance of the pay deal was highly refreshing. The pay deal not only increases workers’ pay, but also provides them with a shorter working week.

"Unite enjoys a good working relationship with TJ Morris and this deal demonstrates what can be achieved when employers engage with unions."

It's reported that Unite members voted "overwhelmingly" to accept the deal, which will now see over 900 workers benefit.
