Lindsay Lohan came back stateside, and one of her first stops was Live with Kelly and Mark to share just how different her life has been lately.
Thankfully, these days Lohan’s talk show appearances are a bit more respectful toward her. But that’s not the only difference between then and now for the Freaky Friday star. These days she lives in Dubai, but she’s back to promote the sequel Freakier Friday, and Kelly Ripa naturally wanted to know what differences she’s noticed between Hollywood and the metropolitan petrostate city.
Lohan had one word: Privacy. According to the Parent Trap star, you can’t even take a picture of someone at a restaurant without their consent. It’s illegal there. Kelly was so surprised by this fact and loudly gasped, saying how great that is. Lohan moved to the city to live with her husband, Bader Shammas, and 2-year-old son. According to Page Six, Lohan sees the shift in her life as “very safe,” saying the city gives her an experience of a normal life.
Lohan’s public life in the early 2000s was brutal. She was in the cohort of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, where the paparazzi would follow them from their lunch all the way to 2AM when they’re leaving a nightclub. Lohan has been a longtime critic of the paparazzi cottage industry, saying they usually would ignore up to 99 things they do right and rely exclusively on the 1 thing they do wrong. And obviously, that would influence the way people perceive them in the greater public.
Fans certainly pay attention. Eventually, if there are enough negative stories about an entertainer, this would start affecting their careers. Because who wants to go watch a film by someone who is just always mean to everyone around them? Lohan shared in an earlier interview that, “I am also human. I make mistakes. That’s all that seems to get reported.”
But ultimately, the sensationalized perception of Lohan did take a toll on the star, and she did take a noticeable step back. These days she only does a handful of roles and then disappears again. This reemergence has been received positively in the press and critics have also seemingly loved Freakier Friday, so that should be more encouraging for her to hopefully extend her comeback.
Another thing Lohan has been enjoying lately is reuniting with her former co-stars. It’s not just limited to Freaky Friday — Lohan recently posed with her former co-stars on Parent Trap at a premiere, and she said the cast feels like family to her. Perhaps another sequel could be on the cards?
Lohan shared that she learned so much from the actors she worked with when she was younger. And she specifically shared something Jamie Lee Curtis told her when she was coming up, revealing, “She said, ‘How you show up on set is how the whole crew feels. You control the energy that goes on set, so always bring your best self.’”
Like most actors, it seems Lohan enjoys the art side of Hollywood and not necessarily the celebrity side of things. But now that she seemingly knows how to manage celebrity, hopefully she can make even more films.
