Holly Willoughby became emotional today as an intensive care doctor cried over the death of his son on today's This Morning.
Professor Hugh Montgomery appeared on the show to speak about the struggles of intensive care staff this year.
Tonight documentary 2020: The Story of Us airs, and tells the story of coronavirus in Britain through the experience of people immersed in its impact, both personally and professionally.
Professor Montgomery appears in the documentary but said that he wouldn't be watching it tonight as he chatted to Holly and her co-host Phillip Schofield.
Holly said : "It's upsetting and I read it this morning in the brief that you can't watch it back because you've already lived that nightmare and you don't want to live it again."
Prof Montgomery became emotional and said: "Yes so it's public knowledge that my 17-year-old son died, in May, so it's been a very difficult year for me.
"But I guess that 120 other thousand people have died and their families have also struggled, so I'm not alone in this and I imagine that the families who have lost loved ones will not be watching either this evening.
"But for those personal reasons it strikes home even more."
Both Phil and Holly appeared emotional and said: "I'm so so sorry."
