Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting a physical Xbox release, and that's worth celebrating

Hollow Knight: Silksong protagonist Hornet stands against a fiery backdrop beside a glowing Xbox physical edition game case.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was one of last year's biggest success stories, selling more than 7 million copies and breaking records following its release. While I'm sure the game needs no introduction at this point, I'm going to give it one anyway.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited sequel to Hollow Knight from Team Cherry, a 2D Metroidvania that took a mere six agonizing years to arrive. If you’re familiar with the genre, you’ll know it hinges on exploration, difficult bosses and finding secrets.

Thankfully, the wait proved worthwhile for most fans. Silksong quickly earned critical acclaim and attracted millions of players across Xbox, Xbox Game Pass, PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Perhaps more interestingly, at least if you're an Xbox fan anyway, Hollow Knight: Silksong is getting a physical release. Revealed yesterday by Fangamer, that physical edition will also be coming to Xbox, something that has become increasingly rare as many physical releases skip Microsoft's platform altogether.

The game is currently available to pre-order through Fangamer for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X. The physical edition is expected to release on October 16, 2026, and it also includes a few nice extras, including a 32-page manual and a poster, though the Sea of Sorrow DLC won't be included on the disc and will instead be provided as a free download but with an October release, it could maybe give us an idea of at least when to expect the DLC which is interesting.

Personally, I think this is great, especially because Xbox isn't being left out for a change. I grew up with physical media, and while I've largely embraced digital purchases and services like Xbox Game Pass, I still have a soft spot for actually owning physical editions of my games.

If it's a game I really care about, I'll usually go out of my way to pick up a physical copy at some point after getting it on digital first. Maybe that's just me, though. Let me know if you still care about physical media and whether you'd be interested in picking up Hollow Knight: Silksong physically. Be sure to let me know in the comments and take part in our poll!
