Holland Park fire: 80 firefighters and 12 fire engines attend blaze at west London flat

Around 80 firefighters were called to a flat fire in west London.

Crews dealt with the blaze at a flat on the first floor of a building in Holland Park Gardens, Holland Park, at about 9.45pm on Tuesday.

Eight properties have been evacuated as a precaution and the cause of the fire is currently unknown.

In a statement, London Fire Brigade said: "Twelve fire engines and around 80 firefighters and officers have been called to a fire at a flat in Holland Park Gardens in Holland Park.

"Part of a first floor flat is currently alight. Approximately eight neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precaution.

"The Brigade was called at 21.44 on Tuesday (February 6).

"Fire crews from Hammersmith, Kensington, North Kensington and other surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is not known at this stage."

One onlooker told the Evening Standard he saw "smoke and fire" on the first floor before the second floor ignited as well.

The fire is less than a mile away from Grenfell Tower, where a blaze last June killed 71 people.
