Holidaymakers face more heartache as easyJet cancels all flights to Egypt airport

Holidaymakers have been left facing more travel chaos after major airline EasyJet grounded all flights to Hurghada, Egypt, for two months. The airline blamed industry-wide issues and offered an apology, but it will offer little comfort to the thousands of people now facing cancelled trips abroad.

The budget airline won't be operating its flights from the UK to Hurghada in June and July. It follows other cancellations over recent months that saw IT problems and staffing issues among the reasons given, the Mirror reports. easyJet normally operates flights to and from Hurghada from East Midlands Airport.

Customers vented their frustrations online. One woman wrote: "Thanks EasyJet for cancelling my parents' flight to Hurghada less than 48 hours before they were due to depart.

"Just spent hours having to look for new flights/refunds and console two very upset people who were looking forward to a well earned break! Absolute shambles."

Another said: "EasyJet just cancelled my partner's return flight on 28th June from Hurghada to Gatwick Airport with no alternative, are you serious??!!!"

An EasyJet spokesperson said: "EasyJet is operating up to 1,700 flights carrying up to a quarter of a million customers every day. There are industry wide operational issues that are impacting airlines at the moment, which means we have made a number of pre-emptive cancellations which includes not operating to Hurghada from the UK for the remainder of June and July.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. We are informing customers in advance to minimise the impact on their plans and provide the option to rebook before travelling or receive a refund, and our customer service hours have been extended to support affected customers.

"We continue to monitor the operation closely and take action in advance as needed."
