Hold on to your steak bakes: Bolton is getting a new drive-thru Greggs

Hold on to your steak bakes - because Bolton is getting a new drive-thru Greggs. The new development will be on Bridgewater Avenue, and on the same site as a new Esso petrol station.

There will also be a new Burger King drive-thru on the site too. It’s only the third drive-thru Greggs in the North West, with the others in Irlam and Blackburn.

“It’s great to have completed this new project and we’re excited to have brought on board two restaurants which are household names in Greggs and Burger King, as tenants,” said owner Ataf Patel, of the family-run A&F Forecourts.

“Together understood the value in developing a new forecourt in a key location, especially considering we had pre-agreements with Greggs and Burger King.

“After we acquired the site we were exploring different funders, and Together really helped us with the investment. Everything ran smoothly from initial conversation to transaction without any issues, and we will definitely be working with them again.”

There are a huge number of Greggs in Greater Manchester. At the last count, the nationwide bakery chain, which started in the North East, had 101 outlets in the city and beyond into the boroughs, out of 2199 in the UK as a whole.

The chain also opened an ‘outlet’ branch, in Oldham, one of 30 new discount stores. The shop, on Henshaw Street opposite the famous Tommyfield Market, takes on the leftover bakery items from other stores and sells them on at a discount.

A pack of four vegan or meat sausage rolls can be picked up for as little as £1.55, sandwiches for 55p, and four jam or glazed doughnuts also for 55p. The move into outlet stores has been made so that the company can tackle issues with food waste.

Gillian Long, Retail Operations Director for Greggs, said: “We’re pleased to be opening a new Outlet shop in Oldham providing a safe haven for Greggs fans who manage a tight budget.”
