Hockey: Men's Asian Champions Trophy postponed to December

NEW DELHI: The men's Asian Champions trophy to be held in Dhaka this October has been postponed to December, hosts Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) confirmed on Friday.

"Asian Champions Trophy will be held in the month of (December beginning) 12th December 2021," the BHF said in response to TimesofIndia.com's query on mail.

The decision was on the cards as the Covid situation in the subcontinent is far from satisfactory; and travel restrictions, coupled with quarantine requirements, aren't ideal for a multi-team international event to be organised.

Multiple attempts to contact Asian Hockey Federation CEO, Tayyab Ikram, didn't elicit a response.

The tournament was scheduled to be held from October 1 to 9.

In all likelihood, the women's Asian Champions Trophy will also be postponed. However, it couldn't be officially confirmed at this stage.

The women's tournament is scheduled for October 24 to 31 in Donghae, South Korea.
