Historic Nottingham business sold after staff made redundant

Administrators have confirmed the sale of a Nottingham business of 90 years - after more than 140 members of staff across two sites were made redundant. The Health Store, based in Bulwell, is one of the leading health food wholesalers, supplying customers through the UK, Europe and Asia.

Chris Pole and Ryan Grant, from Interpath Advisory, were appointed joint administrators of Health Made Easy Limited, of which the Health Store was a subsidiary, on August 26, 2022. Immediately following their appointment the joint administrators sold the shares and associated brands of two of its subsidiaries, Higher Nature Limited and Freshly Cut Limited, to CGK Consulting Limited.

A total of 33 employees, 31 from Higher Nature Limited and two from Freshly Cut Limited, form part of the transaction. The appointment over Health Made Easy Limited follows the appointment to Tree of Life UK Limited, based in Newcastle-Under-Lyme and Bulwell's Health Stores (Wholesale) Limited, two of Health Made Easy Group’s other subsidiaries, on August 22.

Up to 206 employees were located across the two company sites in Newcastle-under-Lyme and Nottingham. Across the two companies, 63 members of staff were retained to assist the administrators in the realisation of assets and the performance of their statutory duties. The remaining 143 members of staff have been made redundant, administrators confirmed.

Staff at the company, on Blenheim Park Road, in Bulwell, were told they were being made redundant on Tuesday (August 23). The warehouse distributed more than 11,000 products and was voted one of the most preferred wholesalers for four years running by independent health retailers.

Chris Pole, Managing Director at Interpath Advisory and Joint Administrator, said: “We’re delighted to have been able to conclude this transaction, which safeguards the future of these market-leading businesses, as well as preserving many jobs. We wish the purchaser all the very best for the future.”

Based in Sussex, Higher Nature is a manufacturer and distributor of vitamin and mineral supplements, operating in the sector for over 25 years. Freshly Cut, trading as Peppersmith, is one of the UK’s leading mints and gum brands.
