Hints on Valentino Lazaro's future as agent says 'very far' along in negotiations

Valentino Lazaro looks set to join a Champions League club with his agent telling Austrian media he is "very far" advanced in negotiations.

Lazaro made 15 appearances - mostly from the bench - after joining Newcastle from Inter Milan in January. There was an option to trigger a permanent move but that hasn't been taken and now Lazaro's agent Max Hagmayr has suggested his priority is regular football after a stop start season.

"It is important for Valentino to play more after this season," he told Kronen Zeitung.

Lazaro showed in spells the talent that persuaded Inter Milan to sign him on a long-term contract but there does not appear to be a future for him in Serie A, despite his contract running to 2023.

Newcastle were interested in bringing him back to St James' Park but the possibility of another loan seemed to be the one mooted by Steve Bruce, who has seen his transfer budget crunched by coronavirus.

United - planning for life without a takeover - have around £30million to spend before sales, which means the loan market will be key.

The Austrian media suggested the club in advanced negotiations was a Champions League one, which would rule out Newcastle.

"With a club, we are already very far,” he told Krone.at.

“I would like to discuss all of this with Valentino after his vacation. There are interested parties. I’m talking to some clubs, but there’s no decision at this stage.

“With a club, as I said, one is very far."
