Highlander and Friends star Stan Kirsch dies in tragic suicide aged 51

Friends cameo star Stan Kirsch has died age 51 after taking his own life.

The actor - best known for his role as Richie Ryan in Highlander - was found dead at his Los Angeles home by his wife Kristyn Green on Saturday.

Paramedics rushed to his home but the telly star was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stan had a starring cameo in Friends where he played a high school student, Ethan, who lied about his aged to sleep with Monica Geller (Courteney Cox).

He played his part in the episode The One with the Ick Factor in 1995.

But the star made his mark on the acting spheres with his part as Richie Ryan.

It was a role he played for six seasons on the hit television show from 1992 until 1998.

Stan also lent his acting talents to the character of Lieutenant Ferrari in JAG for five seasons.

His final acting role came in 2009 when he voiced Robot and Red Rush in animated series Invincible.

In 2008 Stan and Kristyn formed Stan Kirsch Studios in LA and a year later they married.

Kristyn confirmed the news of her husband's death on Monday on Facebook.

She reached out to her family and friends to thank them publicly for their "outpouring of love" at a difficult time.

In a lengthy message, she penned: "I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support.

"I haven't been able to respond to all the texts, calls, emails -- but have read or listened to every single one of them.

"I feel surrounded by love and am forever grateful to each and every one of you."

Stan's acting studio released a statement after his death, saying: "He was so loved and we are just devastated.

"Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this incredibly difficult time."

The official Highlander Facebook group paid tribute to Stan in a note which praised him for bringing his sense of humour, kindness and enthusiasm to the show.

It read: “It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Stan Kirsch.

“Without Stan Kirsch, Highlander: The Series would have been far less.

"He brought a sense of humor, kindness and youthful enthusiasm to the character of Richie Ryan for six seasons.”
