High street favourite Flying Tiger bought by owner of TG Jones

  • Private equity firm Modella Capital has announced its acquisition of the popular Danish retailer Flying Tiger Copenhagen.
  • Flying Tiger, which operates over 1,100 stores across 44 countries, underwent a restructuring last year under the control of its lenders and management.
  • Modella Capital confirmed it would back Flying Tiger's existing plans to open over 700 new franchise stores by 2030.
  • This acquisition follows Modella's previous takeovers of other British retailers, including WH Smith's high street division (rebranded as TG Jones), Claire's Accessories, and The Original Factory Shop.
  • The news comes as Modella's TG Jones division is seeking approval for restructuring plans that could lead to the closure of up to 150 stores and job losses, citing "government policy and recent geopolitical events".
