High street beauty chain calls in administrators – see the Scottish stores closing

A MAJOR high street beauty chain has fallen into administration, with a number of Scottish stores set to close with immediate effect.

Bodycare said 32 stores across the UK will shut immediately after administrators were appointed, with 450 jobs cut.

There are nine Bodycare stores in Scotland which have been affected.

The 115 remaining Bodycare stores in the UK will continue to trade while administrators assess options for the business.

Bodycare was founded in 1970 in Lancashire and sells beauty products, as well as fragrances and other bathroom items.

But the business said it had come under pressure from rising costs, a delayed transition from its online retail platform and cost-of-living pressures on its shoppers.

Nick Holloway, Chris Pole and Mike Leeds from Interpath were appointed as joint administrators to G.R. & M.M. Blackledge plc, trading as Bodycare, on Friday.

Nick Holloway, joint administrator and managing director at Interpath, said: “These remain challenging times for high street retailers as rising costs and reduced consumer spending continue to weigh heavily on trading.

“Unfortunately for Bodycare, which was also contending with a significant funding gap and increasing creditor pressure, these challenges proved too difficult to overcome.”
