Hibs escalate Martin Boyle transfer return as Easter Road chiefs make offer

Hibs have stuck a bid on the table to bring back Martin Boyle from Al Faisaly.

The Easter Road club submitted a bid yesterday to the Saudi Arabian club as they look to further strengthen the squad. They are awaiting a response but hope they can strike a deal before Al Faisaly has to fork out the next instalment of the Australia star’s outstanding transfer fee.

The 29-year-old is still in Scotland and is waiting to see if a deal can be struck and then to see if Hibs can meet his wage demands. Boyle left for Al Faisaly in a big-money deal in January but his club have now been relegated from the Saudi top-flight.

Al Faisaly are not looking to sell Boyle but they have an understanding of his personal situation, with his wife and family still in the UK. Both parties are in agreement if a deal can’t be struck then Boyle will return to the Middle East.

Hibs manager Lee Johnson has not previously worked with the attacker but knows what a talismanic figure he can be. Johnson said: “We know all about Boyle. He is a good player and the club loved him, in terms of personality but also in terms of his footballing ability.

“I would like to add another forward player to the group. It is a complex deal. Whether or not it is possible I honestly don’t know. If it was possible I would be very interested.”

Johnson has met with Boyle since he has been back in Scotland and Hibs also have first option in signing him.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Johnson added: “It is a maybe. There would be a will if it is possible but we are not in control of it because he is another club’s player at the moment. Although if it was an option that could be explored then we would be very keen to explore it.”

Meanwhile, Hibs have now cooled their interest in Nacional defender Joaquin Sosa.
