Heung-min Son: Tottenham strike agreement with MLS side for club captain

LAFC have reached an agreement with Tottenham to sign Heung-min Son.

Standard Sport understands that the deal could be worth as much as £20million, which would surpass the record $22m (£16.6m) fee paid for a Major League Soccer player, set by Emmanuel Latte Lath’s move to Atlanta United in February 2025.

The 33-year-old will now finalise the move, having played his final game for Spurs after a decade of service.

Son leaves with a record of 173 goals in 454 appearances, and led Spurs to Europa League glory in his final competitive game, ending the club’s 17-year trophy drought in the process.

The South Korean bid an emotional farewell to Spurs in Seoul earlier on Sunday, as the club played out a 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Club captain Son was given a standing ovation from the stands and a guard of honour from both sets of players as he was substituted in the second half.

Son told the club's website: "It was a perfect moment. Sharing these beautiful moments are something that I will never forget and I will always appreciate it - from the fans, the players and the gaffer.

"He understood my situation and was always on my side. He always listened to me and asked what I wanted to do. I have a huge respect and am very grateful."

Reflecting on his time in north London, he added: "I wish them all the best. There are five competitions ahead and I hope they win all the five competitions. That's my wish.

"Spurs will always be in my heart and the boys will always be in my history books. It was incredible.”
