A SAS sniper shot a terrorist truck bomber dead in Afghanistan from a mile-and-half away in what is one of the longest ever recorded kills.
The heroic veteran British sergeant saved kids from a bloody massacre as a result of his pin-point accuracy with a Barrett Light .50 calibre rifle.
The crack-shot was tasked with taking out the driver after his SAS unit was tipped-off about a planned truck bomb attack at an Afghan National Army base.
Surveillance soldiers had spotted a truck being loaded with tons of homemade explosives at suspected bomb factories close to the capital Kabul.
Amy chiefs decided to allow the truck to drive away from the populated area onto a road where the sniper was order to take him out, the Daily Star reported.
He also stopped the truck in its tracks by firing two rounds into its engine block.
A source said: “This was a classic SAS operation in which a small SAS unit managed to take out a terrorist and save the lives of dozens of innocent civilians.”
The operation took place earlier this year.
Soldiers had been monitoring suspected bomb making factories for several days before the explosive-ridden truck was spotted.
Due to the success of the mission, the sniper's method is now the SAS's standard approach for taking out enemy truck bombers.
