Singer and actress Bette Midler has responded to President Trump’s recent military action against Iran with criticism on social media. Her comments come after Trump ordered US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend, escalating the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
The US struck several key Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, with Trump claiming the sites were “totally obliterated.” The strikes were part of Trump’s decision to directly involve the United States in the Israel-Iran conflict that began in mid-June.
In her BSKY social media statement, Midler wrote that she “sat here for days trying to understand why he would do such a terrible thing” before sharing what she called “the answer.” She appeared to be referring to Trump’s decision to bomb Iranian nuclear sites and his support for Israel’s military actions.

Midler claims Trump’s actions serve Russian interests
The entertainer suggested that Trump’s military intervention in the Middle East serves broader geopolitical purposes. She claimed that “The Cold War never ended” and that “It just went quiet while Russia recruited the Republican Party,” implying that Trump’s actions benefit Russian strategic interests in the region.
The recent conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with Iranian authorities reporting 610 people killed and 4,746 injured from Israeli strikes, while Iran’s retaliatory attacks killed 28 people in Israel. Trump has described it as a “great honour” to “destroy” Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Midler’s criticism reflects her view that Trump’s military support for Israel against Iran represents what she sees as misguided foreign policy. Her comments suggest she believes the president’s actions are motivated by political considerations rather than genuine security concerns.
Midler has long been publicly critical of Trump, describing him as having ‘no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth,’ and has been a vehement and vocal critic of Trump and his supporters. She previously unleashed a verbal maelstrom on Trump after he mansplained women’s issues. Her opposition to the president intensified following his victory in the November 2024 election.
After Trump’s election victory, Midler posted a controversial image showing bottles of champagne labeled for a potential Kamala Harris win and drain cleaner for a Trump victory. She later left the X platform following backlash over her anti-Trump posts.
The 78-year-old entertainer, known for hits like ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’ and her role in ‘Hocus Pocus,’ has used her platform to voice political opinions throughout her career. She recently served ice-cold revenge fantasy after Trump’s ego claimed another journalism victim. Her latest comments continue her pattern of public criticism of Trump’s policies and decisions, particularly regarding foreign policy and military interventions.
