Hello Carter review – a melancholy romp, but winningly played

Charlie Cox in Hello Carter
Well played, if not scripted … Charlie Cox in Hello Carter

Winningly played and not without interest, this melancholy romp from first-time director Anthony Wilcox stars Charlie Cox as a myopic, lovelorn, homeless, unemployed upper-middle class schmuck who must rattle around London trying to win back his ex-girlfriend with the help of spunky secretary Jodie Whittaker. But the script persistently lets things down, and there’s something irredeemably dreary about both palette and scope.
