Helen Skelton bounces back as she launches new TV series with Strictly star

Helen Skelton is set to front a new TV series with Strictly Come Dancing star Dan Walker.

The presenters both appeared on the BBC dance show a series apart, with Dan coming fifth with pro dancer Nadiya Bychkova in 2021.

While Helen, known for Countryfile and Blue Peter, came fourth after being partnered with Gorka Marquez in the 2022 series.

As the Mirror exclusively revealed last week, Helen could be lined up to replace Rylan Clark on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two - and now it’s emerged she also has a new show in the works.

Teaming up with Channel 5 news presenter Dan, the pair – who are said to be “close friends” - are set to explore Britain’s oldest and most iconic hiking trail, The Pennine Way.

Dan & Helen’s Pennine Adventure will follow the presenters as they immerse themselves in the rural landscape through challenging physical adventure activities.

The duo will also explore the towns and countryside along the 268 mile trail that attracts millions of visitors per year.

They will meet people that live and work there as they seek out the hidden gems and secrets of the area, and hear personal stories from the diverse communities, industries and businesses that make up the backbone of Britain, which they both call home.

Each episode will see Dan and Helen on a different leg of their journey, using different forms of transport.

Dan said: “I am really looking forward to making this series with Helen. I can’t wait to get out there and explore the Pennines.

“It will be nice to escape the studio for a while and join a good friend to discover a beautiful slice of the UK and meet some amazing people along the way.”

He joked: “They promised me there would be food to taste too!”

Helen added: “I’m really looking forward to and grateful for the opportunity to have some incredible adventures with my friend Dan. And it’s on my doorstep!”

The show is being produced by WAG Entertainment and will air on Channel 5, although it is yet to get a release date.

Helen lives in a cottage in the Yorkshire countryside with her three children, Ernie, seven, Louis, six, and one-year-old Elsie.

It follows her split from ex-husband, rugby player Richie Myler, in early 2022, who is now in a new relationship with Stephanie Thirkill.

Stephanie is the daughter of Andrew Thirkill, president of Leeds Rhinos - who Richie plays for - and one of the richest men in Britain, worth a reported £175 million. She gave birth to her first child with Richie earlier this month.
