Helen Mirren, 77, shows off dramatic hair transformation at Cannes Film Festival

Helen Mirren sent fans into a frenzy when she showed off her dramatic new hair transformation at Cannes.

The actress, 77, usually wears her hair in a soft, platinum bob, but decided to switch things up when she rocked an electric blue up-do for the opening night of the film festival.

The Queen star looked striking as she sashayed along the red carpet in a beautiful blue frock - with matching nail polish - as she arrived at the star-studded bash in France.

Later in the evening, Helen sported a stunning black lace gown as she attended a glitzy after party.

The star has previously spoken about vowing to change beauty standards for older women, insisting her generation has been hamstrung by ageism for 'far too long.'

She told Grazia in 2019: "It's extremely annoying to women of my generation and others following mine to have beauty products sold on a 15-year-old face."

Helen continued: 'I don’t want to die young, so I'm going to get old! I think to stay engaged in life, to stay curious about life, to stay with a sense of learning about life, constantly."

The star is one of the most recognised faces on stage and screen, and wowed fans in the biographical drama film, The Queen, in 2006 in which she played the titular role.

Helen paid tribute to the late monarch at the BAFTAs in February as Prince William looked on, emotionally.

During the annual awards show, held at the Royal Festival Hall in London, the actress took to the stage to pay tribute to the great grandmother.

She said: "BAFTAs relationship with Her Majesty was long-standing and BAFTA would not be what it is today without her loyal support.

"She supported over 50 cultural organisations and in 2013 it was her time to be honoured with a BAFTA in recognition of the Queens' outstanding patronage to film and television industries.

"Your Majesty you were our nation's leading star on behalf of BAFTA thank you for all you have done for our film and television industry."

Helen recently revealed she suffered an injury on the set of her latest film Shazam, which she says she'll 'take to the grave' as it permanently altered her finger.

The actress told Lorraine Kelly the DC flick had quite an effect on her, revealing: “I broke my finger, rather famously. You see that bent finger, that straight finger. I now call it my Shazam finger. I’ll take it to the grave with me.”
