Heavy police presence called to incident in Bedminster as man arrested

Police attended an incident in Bedminster as a man was arrested for an alleged drug offence.

Emergency sirens were heard at around 1.50pm yesterday (March 23), before at least four police cars arrived in Bedminster Down Road.

Officers then arrested a 37-year-old man in Winterstoke Road, on suspicion of possessing a class A drug with intent to supply.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman confirmed the suspect has been released under investigation.

PC Joe Iles posted on Twitter: "Thank you for your patience on Winterstoke Road whilst we dealt with an incident. One arrested at scene."

In other crime news, two Iceland delivery fans were set on fire in Southmead last night and will have to be written off.

In a statement, Iceland said: “Police riot vans were called out and youths threw missiles at the police as they tried to disperse them.

“Later in the evening the two home delivery vans parked outside our Southmead store were set alight and the fire brigade attended to put out the fire."
