A woman has been branded as the “ultimate passenger from hell” after she spat wine at a family during a flight from Heathrow Airport to the US, according to reports.
Passengers noticed that a woman had been drinking from a bottle of wine she had smuggled on board the flight in her hand luggage after the British Airways jet took off last Wednesday.
The Sun reports that the woman then began abusing a couple and their daughter sat behind her, after ordering a Chardonnay and a Bloody Mary, before chucking water at the family and mocking them.
A witness told the newspaper: “She slugged as much wine as she could, got up from her seat, and intentionally spat the wine swilling around her mouth into their faces. It was disgusting and rancid.”
The woman then grabbed the wife’s hair and began taking photos of the family, before eventually being violently sick across all three of them.
The drunk passenger was given a “final warning,” while the distressed family were moved from the economy section to the front of the plane.
Another source told the Sun the incident was “bedlam” and that it had been clear the passenger had been drunk just minutes into the flight.
“The poor family were so upset and angry - and they had every right to be,” the source said. “The woman was a total disgrace.”
The source recalled how the whole cabin began to smell for the remainder of the flight.
They added: “It was a nightmare for everyone. She caused a major interruption.
“BA staff did everything they could to help out, but this woman was a shocker.
“All the passengers nearby were disgusted at the woman’s behaviour. She was undoubtedly the ultimate passenger from hell.”
The woman is understood to have claimed it was her birthday and she had explained she was enjoying a “few drinks”.
At another point, she reportedly began walking up and down the aisle to the toilet, “stumbling and moaning incoherently”.
An order was made to ensure she was not served any more alcohol and she is understood to have passed out for over 11 hours as the flight made its journey to San Diego on August 13.
The flight’s captain then radioed ahead and US police met the Boeing passenger plane as it touched down.
The disruptive passenger was arrested while the targeted family were helped off the flight and is understood to be assisting authorities with their ongoing investigation.
British Airways has been contacted for comment.
