Heartstopper fans 'screaming' as Netflix releases season two teaser

Netflix has finally released a teaser trailer for Heartstopper season two - leaving excited fans 'screaming.'

The show, which debuted in April last year, follows Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson as their unexpected friendship turns into something more. Navigating love, friendship and identity, the coming-of-age series has been praised for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ stories and characters.

Heartstopper's second season sees Charlie, Nick and friends juggle a school trip to Paris, a prom and upcoming exams. The 40-second teaser trailer features classmates and friends Tara, Darcy, Tao, Elle and Isaac alongside Charlie and Nick.

"Show the world what love is made of", the season's logline reads, while Charlie says: "Everything's going to be perfect," and Nick responds: "Yeah." The clip is sound tracked by Gold by Saint Joan.

Netflix UK dropped the teaser via Twitter on Saturday (July 1), writing: "Can we interest you in a...HEARTSTOPPER S2 TEASER??" The clip was followed up with the official season two poster.

It would be an understatement to say fans were excited by the reveal. @iamreversefunny said: "Screaming crying throwing myself against the wall" and @Federista93 echoed: "SCREAMING LIKE A FOOL & SQUEALING NON STOP!!!!"

@Marianaclown123 announced: "I'm ready to make this season my whole personality" and @QueenGlimmer1 said: "everyone shut up this is the only thing I am going to talk about for the rest of the month". @flopeande tweeted: "im ready drop everything," with a string of crying face emojis and @deadpoetsprng admitted: "a 37 secs teaser has got me going insane".

The popular TV series is based on the best-selling graphic novels of the same name by Alice Oseman, who also serves as screenwriter. There are four volumes of Heartstopper already, with volume five to be released in November.

While the first season was based on volumes one and two of the comics, Alice told website Netflix Tudum that this season is based on volume 3. She explained: “We had a good foundation. But there’s not enough in the book to take a whole season of TV, so there had to be a lot of creation of new stuff.”

Fans who have already read the comics know what to expect in season two, with plenty more drama on the way. Viewers pointed out that, despite Charlie declaring that 'everything's going to be perfect,' that really won't be the case.

Responding to the teaser trailer, @dearselwyn predicted: "this season is gonna make me cry so much omg just like the first one" while @sincere_bridget tweeted: "IM SO EXCITED AND ALSO SLIGHTLY TERRIFIED (if youve read the books... you know what I mean...)."

@yimieyim admitted: "i kept lying to myself tht this season would be perfect", with a broken-heart emoji while @lilfreakwol said: "I want it to be all fluffy and unicorns, but I bet the drama will come in as well," with a crying-face emoji.

Heartstopper Season Two drops on Netflix on Thursday August 3.
