Hearts players and boss Daniel Stendel are reportedly asked to take 50 per cent wage cut

Hearts players and manager Daniel Stendel have been asked to take a 50 per cent pay cut, according to media reports.

The Daily Record reports that playing and coaching staff have all been contacted by club bosses and asked to take a drop in wages for the time being.

This is said to be a result of the cash lost due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, and postponed league and Scottish Cup matches.

It is also reported that academy staff who work 20 hours of less have been asked to take unpaid leave.

Earlier on Wednesday we told how Hearts owner Ann Budge spoke of a "serious situation" as the club were set miss out on around £1million of income.

She said: "We have four home games and in terms of income to the club, that's well over half a million pounds.

"We have the semi-final and again, that's well over half a million pounds.

"So in the blink of an eye, £1million we had in terms of income in April is gone. That's a huge impact on any club and all clubs will have similar problems – maybe not to the same extent – but that's money that we thought we would have that we won't have."
