Hearts player ratings as Andy Halliday rises to the occasion on fan return night

The 2,000 Hearts fans inside Tynecastle will have been happy with that they saw from their team against Cove Rangers.

A fine opener from Andy Halliday was followed by Liam Boyce and Gary Mackay-Steven scoring for the second game in succession as they ran out 3-0 winners.

There was even a record broken by Craig Gordon, who became the Hearts goalkeeper to go the longest without conceding a goal.

Here's how they rated out of ten.

Craig Gordon: Virtually nothing to do and secured a club record ninth clean sheet in succession. 6

John Souttar: Dealt with everything with zero fuss. 7

Craig Halkett: Strong in the air and unlucky to get booked. 6

Stephen Kingsley: Solid enough without being tested. Talked Cochrane through the game ahead of him. 6

Michael Smith: Vital early goal-line clearance and caused problems for Cove going forward. 7

Andy Halliday: Great strike to open the scoring and tenacity created the third for GMS. 8

Finlay Pollock: Very unlucky not to score when hitting the post and generally showed up well in his first competitive start. 7

Alex Cochrane: A couple of decent deliveries early on and kept things simple after moving to left back. 6

Josh Ginnelly: Always direct and quick to either deliver from wide or get a shot at goal. 7

Gary Mackay-Steven: Looked tricky and could have perhaps scored more than the one he got. 7

Liam Boyce: Got his goal and linked play well playing up front through the middle. 7

Subs

Peter Haring: Kept Hearts ticking over. 4

Aaron McEneff: Brought energy and got involved. 5

Connor Smith: Unlucky with a late effort. 5

Aidan Denholm: Looked bright. 4

Euan Henderson: Looked to run in behind. 3
