Hearts and Hibs release wages to turnover spending ratios for 2018

Hearts and Hibs have revealed their wages to turnover ratio for 2018 and it’s encouraging news for the capital clubs.

Data compiled by Twitter account Price of Footbal explains how much Scottish and English sides are spending on wages in comparison to how much cash being generated over the year.

Results include overall expenditure on staff rather than just player wages, as a percentage of a club’s turnover.

It’s generally accepted that anything under 60% of turnover being spent on player wages alone is healthy before taking in to account non-playing staff salaries.

Aberdeen had the lowest wage-to-income ratio of 55.6%. Hibs recorded a turnover of 9.6m and spent sightly more than the Dons and 55.8% which equated to £5.4m in wages.

Hearts spent 57.9% of their annual £12m turnover on wages, which works out at £6.9m.

The club announced today that non-matchday turnover rose by over £1m in the last year thanks to a record-breaking year in terms of hospitality and catering.

For comparison, Birmingham City ratio in the English Championship was a massive 202.2%.
