Heartfelt tributes flood in for dog named after Kilmarnock bar and restaurant

Tributes have been paid to a dog who was the heart and soul of a Kilmarnock bar and restaurant.

Maggie's Bar & Kitchen owners spoke of their devastation after their beloved pooch, who was named after the popular venue in the town, passed away on Friday.

Maggie the dog was such a big part of the Glencairn Square restaurant's operations that she tasted all of the new items on the menu and attended everything from deliveries to meetings and even had a snooze in the office.

Her heartbroken owners posted on the venue's Facebook page that entire team will miss her and that the much-loved pet will live on through the restaurant and bar.

Saturday's post read: "It's with a heavy heart that we have to tell you all that Maggie our beloved dog took her final breaths yesterday.

"Maggie was the heart and soul of Maggie's Bar & Kitchen and a vital member of our team.

"She loved meeting all our customers and tasting new items on our menu. She could be found sleeping in the office or out hunting for crumbs at the end of our shift.

"We know how much you all will miss her as will we. The whole team as you can imagine are devastated.

"David and myself would like to take the time to thank all customers who ever shared a kindness with Maggie whether it be with a pet, a smile or even a sneaky bit of your food. She will forever live on through Maggie's Bar & Kitchen."

And Maggie clearly touched the lives of many people across the globe.

One customer said: "Our sincere condolences for your loss of Maggie. We have fond memories of her greeting us on our short visit to Maggie's. Sending from Phoenix, AZ."

Another person wrote: "Aww, how sad she was such a lovely wee dog, had the pleasure of meeting her a couple of times in the bar, sleep tight Maggie."
