Heartfelt messages left on Dumbarton bridge to support those in crisis

Heartfelt messages of love and support to help people facing a mental-health crisis have been left in locations across Dumbarton.

Dozens of uplifting notes have been placed on a Dumbarton bridge, as well as at Havoc shore.

The handwritten words of support — laminated to make them weatherproof — include “You are stronger than you think”.

And “Know that deep inside, you are resilient, brave and so much stronger and more powerful than your fears.”

It is not known who is behind the messages, but similar notes have been placed on bridges across the country in recent years.

Pictures of the notes were shared by Lorna Mcelhinney on Vale of Leven Coronavirus support group last week.

She said: “To whoever wrote these wee quotes and tied them to the railings across the bridge in Dumbarton, thank you.”

A number of residents replied and said they had spotted them in several other local locations too, including Havoc and in Helensburgh.

Teresa Gallacher said: “This is so thoughtful and caring .. everyone will get something out of these sayings .. I know I have.”

David J Kennedy replied: “Love these. Thank you whoever placed them on the bridge.”

And Jenni Stewart said: “Looks like the same person has done it in Helensburgh too. Lovely thought and I hope it brings a wee bit of reassurance for anyone that might need it.”

Ann Marie Bell said: “Amazing. They are all along the shore too. So lovely.”
