Heartbroken daughter says life has been 'ruined' after dad dies in work 'freak accident'

A grieving daughter whose dad died in a 'freak accident' at work says her life is 'ruined' and her family has been 'destroyed'.

Keely Pointon, 30, says she never got to say goodbye to her father and that her family weren't able to see him due his 'severe' injuries. Now, she is demanding answers about the incident - and justice for her dad.

Craig Pointon, 50, was working for Stoke-on-Trent City Council when he was struck by a colleague's vehicle and died on Canal Lane in Longport in May 2022. He had been working for the council for 30 years before his tragic death.

Keeley is 'refusing to accept' that nobody is to blame for what happened. It comes as Staffordshire Police have completed their investigation and confirmed no-one will be prosecuted, reports Stoke on Trent Live.

Keeley said: “We have been told it was a freak accident - the driver wasn’t under any substances, wasn't distracted by anything, and was going at a low speed. While I can accept that an accident can happen, it is hard to take. It has caused massive arguments and destroyed our family. My dad is gone.”

An inquest is still to be held into Craig's death.

Keeley added: “It baffles me how somebody can die instantly from being knocked over at a low speed. One of the things that affected me the most was that we weren’t even allowed to see him. We weren’t allowed because of how severe his injuries were.

“I can’t get my head around any of it. I don’t think any of it is right. It plays on my mind constantly. It’s ruined my life for the last 12 months.

“I hate it, every day I think about it. I have flashbacks of my dad standing at my front door and the police standing there telling me he’s dead. Now I’m living in his house with all his stuff. I never got to say goodbye. I just saw a box with his name on.

“My dad was a nice man who’d do anything for everybody. He was hardworking. If he wasn’t at work, he’d be working at home. I want some sort of justice for my dad. I love him, I miss him, and I’d give anything now for him to be back.”

The Health and Safety Executive is not investigating Craig's death. The council has declined to comment.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Our enquiries have been completed and a report has been submitted to the coroner.”
