The terrifying moment an HGV driver went on a roundabout the wrong way has been captured in chilling dashcam footage.
The near miss took place on one of Ayrshire's busiest roads last week between Irvine and Kilmarnock with the whole shocking incident recorded by a driver who almost ploughed straight into the lorry.
The heart stopping incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon at Corsehill Mount Roundabout on the A71 leaving one motorist utterly stunned.
The HGV emerged from the road meant to be an exit slip from the roundabout that takes traffic to Dreghorn.
Oblivious to the huge mistake the driver headed on the roundabout until he almost careered into the car recording dashcam footage.
When he realised his error, the driver retreated back to the junction.
The registration plate, which we've chosen to blur out, appears to be from outwith the UK, so it's entirely possible the driver was unfamiliar with the road.
The stunned motorist who captured the footage told Ayrshire Live: "The guy was flapping his arms like a wounded seagull in the cab.
"I found it quite terrifying. If my camera had audio you would've heard quite a bit of effing and jeffing.
"I actually thought he was going to try and head to the slip to Irvine but he just reversed back to where he came from.
"He would've had quite a job of reversing back up there too.
"It's quite incredible that this is happened, the road is really well marked.
"It could've been a lot worse but I'm just glad there was no crash or anything like that."
Police Scotland have confirmed that the incident has not been reported to them.
