Health Secretary Therese Coffey’s Dr Dre alarm goes off live on air

Therese Coffey’s alarm has gone off during an interview with LBC’s Nick Ferarri - and the tone may surprise some.

The cigar-chuffing new health secretary quickly scrambled to turn off her 8am alarm as the opening bars of the legendary West Coast rapper’s 1999 hit ‘Still D.R.E’ rang out live.

“I’ve just realised my alarm is going off on my phone, I apologise. You’re getting a bit of Dr. Dre,” she explained. “It’s just an 8 o’clock alarm.”

Nick Ferrari interjected: “It’s Dr Dre is it? Fantastic. Dr Coffey with Dr Dre as health secretary it just gets better and better doesn’t it?”

Ms Coffey will take over the health brief amid a growing crisis in the NHS, with 6.7 million Britons waiting for routine hospital treatment and record numbers of people waiting over 12 hours to be admitted to A&E.

She told Sky News that her top four priorities for the health service were “A, B, C, D – ambulances, backlogs, care, doctors and dentists”.

In her first speech after becoming Prime Minister on Tuesday, Liz Truss identified the NHS as one of her three “early priorities” for Government.
