Headteacher of Glasgow mum-to-be found dead pays heartfelt tribute to 'lovely and kind' person

A pregnant Glasgow teacher who was found dead at her home in Govan has been described as a "lovely, kind, diligent and considerate person" in an emotional tribute.

Marelle Sturrock, a teacher at Sandwood Primary School in Penilee, was found dead at around 8.40am after police officers attended her home on Jura Street.

Concerns were initially raised after the 35-year-old failed to show up for work and friends were unable to get a response from the expectant mum when they went to check on her.

Fiona Donnelly, Headteacher at Sandwood Primary School paid tribute to much-loved Marelle and her dedication to the children and school.

She said: "Marelle has been a much-loved member of our school community since her probationary year more than six years ago and has taught many year groups throughout her time at the school.

"We will all miss her so much.

"She was a lovely, kind, diligent and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone.

"Marelle used her artistic talents across the school and was our music champion who has been a key player in the success of our school choirs; with one of her classes going to see her on stage at The King’s in one of her many acting roles outside of school.

"We are a school community in mourning and are devasted by the tragic news of her death and pass on our deepest condolences to her family and friends as we all come to terms with our loss.”

A letter was also sent to the parents of all pupils in the school following Marelle's death, offering support to all pupils affected by the tragedy.

Last night (April 26), Police Scotland confirmed that Marelle's death is being treated as 'suspicious'.

Detectives searching for a missing man over eight miles away at Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, said their presence within the park is "linked" to the death of Marelle.
