‘He’s driving so slow I could walk faster’: Charleston woman matches with plastic surgery student. Then he shows up on edibles

A woman from Charleston, South Carolina, recounts a bizarre date with a medical student who showed up high to pick her up. When she blocks his number, she realizes she left something important with him.

In a video with over 220,000 views, TikToker Mikayla Capps (@mikaylacapps) says she matched with a man named Todd two years ago, who told her he was a plastic surgery resident. In the caption, she clarifies that she later learned he wasn’t a resident but a medical student.

“He was six-foot-five and handsome. I’ll bite. Hook, line, and sinker, I’m baited,” she says.

On her TikTok page, Capps frequently shares her experiences going on dates with men in Charleston, calling the dating scene a “hellscape” in the multi-part series.

Todd picks her up from her home for their first date, 30 minutes late, and quickly tells her he took an edible before leaving.

“He goes, ‘You’re in for a treat. This is my first-ever edible date,'” she recounts, laughing. “I go, ‘I’m not high.’ He goes, ‘I know, but I am.'”

Capps notices her date drives well under the speed limit, seemingly under the influence.

“He’s driving so slow I’m like, ‘God bless it, I could walk faster,'” Capps says. They finally get to the bar for their date, and the situation only goes downhill from there.

What happened on her Charleston date from hell?

When they arrive at the bar, she runs to the bathroom before ordering a drink. However, when she comes out, she sees her date asleep at the bar.

“I don’t even bother waking him up. I’m sitting there chit-chatting with the bartender,” she says. “All of a sudden, Todd rises from the dead and says, ‘You’re talking too much to the bartender.'”

Capps claps back, asking Todd why he isn’t talking to her. He responds, “I’ll start talking to you when you say something I give a [expletive] about.”

Todde proceeds to take his phone out and tries to draft an email, despite being heavily under the influence.

“He’s so high he can’t do it. So he’s going, ‘Come on, Todd. Come on, Todd. You can do it,” she explains, while imitating her date smacking himself on the forehead.

The bartender offers to get her an Uber, and she agrees. Todd goes to the bathroom and returns to tell Capps he took a sleeping pill.

“So, I leave, obviously,” she says. “And I leave my [expletive] purse there.”

Despite blocking Todd and telling him she didn’t want to meet again, she has to unblock him to ask if he has her purse and wallet. When she goes to pick it up the next day, he asks her on a second date.

“You’re kidding,” she says. “I never saw him again.”

How did viewers react to her story?

Other women in the Charleston area surprise Capps by sharing that her story is all too familiar, saying they believe they also went on dates with the same Todd.

“The fact that I too have been on a date with todd. I hope he’s gotten help too,” one woman shares. Capps responds, “HAHA shut up. He’s the WORST.”

Another says, “He told me I could use a nose job.”

“I went on a date with this guy too and IM TRAUMATIZED,” a third says.

One woman who believes she went on a date with the same Todd says he moved out of state.

Some commenters say they’re horrified that Todd is a medical student, suggesting that he should get help for his substance use before taking responsibility for others’ medical care.

“The idea that man is responsible for anyone’s medical care is terrifying,” a commenter suggests.

“Todd does NOT need to be a physician,” another writes. Capps responds, “And he’s not going to be! I think he either got kicked out or dropped out.”

@mikaylacapps UPDATE: someone just informed me that Todd lied and he was actually just a med student, not a plastics resident. Don’t hate on MUSC please!!!! thank god for therapy bc it has given me the self esteem to never date men like this again #chs #charlestondating #worstdates #foryou #fyp ♬ original sound – MIKAYLA
