‘He is throwing ketchup tonight’: Donald Trump claims Republicans would’ve won elections if his name was on the ballot

Candidates endorsed by Donald Trump were wiped off the polls during the Nov. 4 elections, including in New York City. So, he declared that Republicans lost because his name wasn’t on the ballot. Which, conveniently, is how things will be for every election from now until the end of time.

It wasn’t a good night for the GOP on Nov. 4. Andrew Cuomo, Trump’s endorsed candidate, Andrew Cuomo, has been destroyed by Zohran Mamdani in the New York mayoral race. Even in key states like Virginia, New Jersey, Ohio, Georgia, and Michigan, Democrats defeated Republicans across several offices (via CNN). But Trump, naturally, had an explanation that involved no self-reflection whatsoever.

Hours after the losses, which probably didn’t let Trump sleep, he took to his Truth Social for a midnight rant. “TRUMP WASN’T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT, according to Pollsters,” he wrote. And with that single post, Trump managed to throw his entire party under the bus. He deflected responsibility and inflated his ego in his signature political narcissism.

Noticeably, Trump did not congratulate a single Republican who actually did win that night. Instead, he sent a clear message saying when Trump isn’t there, you lose. Rather than acknowledging that his own shutdown theatrics had gutted their campaigns, he put all the blame on the candidates. Good day to be a Republican, no?

The irony is that the GOP lost precisely because he was there. Anyone whom he endorsed had the shadow of his dirty politics hovering over them. And 10 months into his second term of presidency now, everyone knows what his political ideologies stand for. His obsession with revenge politics and nasty crusades against his opponents threw off even the ones who supported him before.

Trump’s war against immigrants, violent ICE raids, non-existent healthcare, tariffs, and every other selfish policy is responsible for the Republicans. In reality, every Republican candidate on the ballot reflected his name, and people chose to ignore it. But his Truth Social post reeked of self-obsession. The post was clearly written to imply that he alone makes his party win elections.

Thankfully, for Americans, his name can never appear on the ballot constitutionally again. So, the days aren’t far when Republicans are wiped off the map. But Trump’s ego refuses to grasp this. He previously hinted that he has a way to be back in office. And his lavish renovations of the White House confirm that he’s planning something sinister to never leave office.

For now, social media shredded him to every last bit on his post. One said, “I got bad news for Trump about every election from now until the end of time,” reminding him that his election days are constitutionally over. Another reiterated, saying, “He must not have gotten the memo…the Constitution.” But the best one yet mocked him, saying, “You know he’s throwing ketchup tonight.”

It wasn’t just creative, it was a callback. Trump reportedly hurled a ketchup bottle in fury after being denied the Nobel Peace Prize. And judging by his social media rant, another red stain might be spreading across a wall in the White House tonight. What Trump needs to realize is that his name not being on the ballot was not the problem. It’s just that the voters finally know what it means when it is there.
