'He couldn't do any worse' Lorraine Kelly calls for her pooch Angus to be elected US President

Lorraine Kelly is eyeing up a career in politics for her pooch Angus.

The Scots TV host called for the border terrier to be made US President , or "leader of the universe" on her ITV breakfast show this morning.

The star cheekily added her much-loved four-legged pal "couldn't do any worse" at the job than Donald Trump.

Lorraine made the hilarious comments in a segment with entertainment presenter Ross King.

After Ross asked how she'd feel about Angus being made a mayor, Lorraine joked: "Do you know what? mayor? Absolutely not.

"We should be thinking more than that, we should be thinking president, leader of the universe, he couldn't do a worse job, let's be honest."

The pair had been discussing one of the more surreal success stories from the recent US elections, after it was revealed a French bulldog has been elected mayor of Rabbit Hash in northern Kentucky.

Wilbur Beast declared a landslide victory over other the other candidates vying for power, tallying 13,143 out of 22,985 total votes cast.

Ross said: "Rabbit Hash in kentucky, 500 people live there and Wilbur is the mayor.

"His owner has been asked how they're dealing with the stress of things and he's doing okay, he's had a few ear scratchings and belly rubs."

The incumbent mayor was a rescued pit bull called Brynneth Pawltro - who had held the position since 2017 -  but he only received a paltry 292 votes compared to Wilbur's thousands.

A beagle called Jack Rabbit and a golden retriever called Poppy came second and third in the race, making them Rabbit Hash's newest ambassadors.

And another political pooch called Lady Stone will keep her position, according to a post on the Rabbit Hash Historical Society's Facebook page.

Meanwhile the outcome of the US presidential election is still not clear.

Earlier we reported Donald Trump has repeated a series of baseless allegations to claim he is being cheated out of the US presidential election.

The ballot remains too close to call after polls closed on Tuesday, but former vice-president Biden remains the favourite after winning three key battleground states.
