HC orders Kerala police chief to conduct detailed probe

KOCHI: The high court on Thursday ordered state police chief to conduct a detailed probe on the allegations involving Monson Mavunkal, who allegedly has links with top police officials, politicians, and celebrities. The court also ordered police to grant life protection to Monson’s driver Ajith EV.

Justice Devan Ramachandran said in an interim order that while the petition was filed on August 11, the allegations raised by the petitioner have certainly acquired a new colour in the last few days. The court also made state police chief a party in the case.

The court then said in the order, “I am, therefore, certain that the assertions of the petitioner will require to be closely looked into by the competent Police Authorities, including the State Police Chief, particularly because investigation is stated to be proceeding against the 5th respondent (Monson) on various grievous allegations.”

Permitting the petitioner Ajith EV of Idukki to implead the state police chief in the party array, the court has scheduled a hearing on October 5.

The court ordered district police chief to ensure that the life of the petitioner is protected adequately and that necessary enquiries are commenced.

It was alleged by Ajith that police officers who are close to Monson were trying to implicate him in criminal cases after he divulged some information about Monson to crime branch.
