HC: Allow School Service Commission access to data room, submit State Level Selection Test breakup

Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday directed CBI, investigating irregularities in teacher appointments, to throw open the doors of West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) data room, now in the agency’s control, by June 30 to enable access to SSC.

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay issued the directive and added that SSC had to submit by July 15 the breakup of marks of candidates on the State Level Selection Test (SLST) waiting list for recruitment to teaching posts for Classes IX, X, XI and XII in state-aided schools .

The court also directed that National Informatics Centre (NIC) be made a party to the case.

It further directed SSC officials to enter the data room in the presence of CBI and NIC officers and retrieve data to prepare the list. The court had ordered SSC to submit the list along with breakup of marks by May 20.

Earlier in the day, SSC chairman Siddhartha Majumdar appeared in the court of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha and submitted why SSC couldn’t comply with the court directive. He said that the central investigating agency had taken over the data room and SSC officials had no access to it.

Majumdar also pointed out that SSC couldn’t retrieve the data until computer engineers installed hard disks and ran software programmes to enable access. He reported that one of the three servers was not working. After hearing him out, Justice Mantha released the matter to be heard by Justice Gangopadhyay.
