Exeter City boss Matt Taylor has urged Nottingham Forest target Randell Williams to find different ways to impact the game.
Over the weekend, it has emerged that Sabri Lamouchi’s side are one of a number of clubs closely monitoring the winger, ahead of a move in the January window.
Cardiff City, QPR and Huddersfield Town have also been linked with the midfielder, who has been instrumental to the Grecian’s charge to the top of League Two.
But on Saturday, the 22-year-old was substituted after only 54 minutes of the game – despite setting up City’s first half opener.
And Taylor, speaking to our sister title DevonLive said he had to be taken off in order to get a point from what was a ‘difficult game’ to watch.
“I shouldn’t be having to take off the likes of Nicky Law and Randell Williams, but they were ineffective at times today, just on the state of the game,” he said.
“But Randell has to learn as well. He has to learn to affect the game in different ways than just in attacking play and that is why we brought Jayden on. Aaron Martin came on and did a really good job.
“You don’t want to be taking your players off, but that’s sometimes what it takes to get a point away from home.
“It was probably a difficult game for people to watch in terms of quality, but a great game for people to watch in terms of understanding how difficult this league is.”
Williams arrived at St James' back in January of this year, where after starting on the bench, he has now found himself a regular starter.
