AMBALA: The crime investigation agency (CIA)-I of district police arrested the most wanted criminal Mohit Kumar alias Mohit Mental alias Jhalla, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, said Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa on Wednesday.
He said Mohit Kumar of Mahua Kheri village in Naraingarh block of Ambala district was arrested by CIA-I on Tuesday, from Bhanpur village near Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh.
The accused was produced in the district court at Naraingarh, which granted his seven-day police remand for investigation.
SP Ambala Randhawa said that Mohit was wanted in cases of murders and others since 2018 and three cases of murders are registered against him in Ambala district in Naraingarh police station (PS) and others in Mullana.
SP Ambala said that the Haryana DGP had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information on Mohit Mental on June 6, 2018, which was increased to Rs 1 lakh on July 8, 2019.
The SP said that total seven criminal cases are registered against Mohit in Ambala.
As per the information, Mohit Mental first committed murder of Gurdeep Singh of his village in Mahua Kheri on October 3, 2013 (case 287/2013 at Naraingarh PS), in which, he was convicted for life by the district court but he secured bail from Punjab and Haryana high court in 2017.
Later, on May 13, 2018 (case 172/2018 at Naraingarh PS), Mohit along with his accomplices killed Randhir Singh of his village, who was witness to Gurdeep murder.
Then, Mohit with his accomplices killed Puran Chand of his village, who was witness to Randhir murder case on July 2, 2019 (case 216/2019 at Naraingarh PS).
Ambala SP Randhawa said, “Mohit was arrested in Gurdeep murder case and he and his accomplices were convicted. But in 2017, he was released on bail from the High Court. After coming out, he committed murder of Randhir in May 2018, who was a main witness to Gurdeep murder case against Mohit. In July 2019, he murdered Puran Chand, as he was also a witness to murder case of Randhir.”
The SP said that accused Mohit was wanted in some more cases of Arms Act, criminal intimidation, firing at a person’s house, trespass and proclaimed offending against him.
"During preliminary interrogation, Mohit revealed that he did not come towards Ambala or Haryana after committing murder in 2019 and constantly remained in parts of central and southern India. The recovery of weapons is pending from accused Mohit. We apprehend that he could be involved in some more criminal cases in this region", said SP Ambala.
The SP said so far they have no information whether criminal cases are registered against Mohit Mental in other states or not and the investigation is being done.
