JIND: Police officials initiated departmental enquiry after a video of police personnel deputed at dial 112 vehicle went viral on social media platforms in which they are seen brutally canning a youth in Haryana's Jind district.
All three police personnel are seen thrashing badly a youth identified as Manjeet, a native of Karmgarh village of Narwana town in Jind district. In the video, it can be seen that police personnel are abusing him besides canning and thrashing while putting him in a police vehicle. In the video, the youth was crying badly and requesting police personnel with folded hands but they didn't listen to his plea and continued thrashing until a few passerby intervened into the matter and captured the video as well.
Notably, Haryana CM Manohar Lal set up the Dial-112 Emergency Response System which was launched on July 12, 2021 with the aim of providing immediate help to the citizens of Haryana in times of emergency.
Kin of the victim has sought strict action against the accused police personnel and lodged a police complaint with DSP Sandeep Singh.
Talking to TOI, DSP Sandeep Singh said: "the matter has come into my knowledge following which a departmental enquiry has been started. Moreover, action would be taken after the probe," he added.
Ravinder Nain, a family member of victim and block samiti vice president in Narwana town, said: "Manjeet was heading in his Mahindra pick up vehicle carrying a buffalo toward Sonipat district and when reached near Ludana police chowki, a dial 112 vehicle stopped him. All the three employees were drunk and sought bribes from him. When Manjeet offered Rs 100, they refused and one of the police personnel named Roshan Lal asked him for Rs 2,000. When he failed to give them the desired amount, they started beating and abusing him. He is in big shock and fear after the incident. Our family members supported him and assured for a fair action. If action is not taken we would stage a protest into the matter," he added.
